Betting on Corners: Find The Best Games and Teams for Corner Markets
Why Corners?
It’s simple. Corners are very valuable markets. They yield great results for those who bet on them with a corner betting system, discipline and the correct tools for researching matches.
If you’re new to corner betting, you might think that corners are only valuable if they lead to a goal. This is a wrong assumption, but don’t worry, this guide will aim to teach you just how valuable betting on corners can be and how you can use FootyStats to consistently find high-value upcoming fixtures.

Betting on corners has become a very popular market in recent years, for a few reasons. First, the bookmakers have added more markets for betting on corners. More markets means more ways to win and as the bookmakers expand their reach globally, it gives bettors the chance to find a profitable niche and focus their energy on that niche with the view of uncovering value, be that per league or per market. Corners are no different.
Corners are often more predictable than other markets, but detailed research is needed. When betting on less-dynamic markets, like FT Result (1/X/2), you might look at the team’s recent form and decide that they’re worth the odds the bookmaker has given them, but when betting on corners, we must take a lot more into consideration.
Stats, Tactics and Trends
As mentioned previously, we will need to dig deeper to profit consistently from corners. You should never bet blindly, or even based on a single stat. Always dig deeper. If the stats are available, use them.
Teams can’t have corners if they don’t have the ball. So, first, take a look at the possession for each team. If we use Manchester City as an example, you can see that they have an average of 63% possession per game, and 65% when playing at home. Remember to check both home and away stats before placing any bets. Some teams can be unplayable in their home ground and wretched when playing away from home.

Manchester City records an average of 8.26 corners per game at home in the Premier League, with a total average of 10.68 corner per game. The vast majority are for the home side. This supports the idea that more possession results in more corners, but you can always dig deeper. We can test this assumption by looking at side with a lower portion of average possession per game, like Burnley. The average possession for them was 43% across the 2019/2020 Premier League season, with 4.39 corners awarded per game. Less possession, fewer corners.
Stats such as these can be found on any team pages and are great when betting on the the following markets:
- Corner Match Winner
- Alternative Corners
- Asian Corners
- Team Corners
Markets Offered
The bookmakers continue to add as many markets as they possibly can for corners, with the majority of bettors lacking the discipline to take advantage of them. More markets mean more fluctuations in price and more chances for value to appear. It’s harder for the bookmakers to control the value on offer with corners, unlike less-dynamic markets they offer. You might think this is counter-intuitive from the bookmakers, but the majority of bettors—as previously mentioned—will continue to act on impulse when presented with more markets.

Total Corners
This market allows you to bet on the amount of corners, with less room for error. As an example, you could bet on there being between 12-14 corners in a given fixture. If there’s 12,13 or 14, you’re a winner.
Alternative Corners
If you have ever bet on goals, this market will feel familiar. You can bet on there being over or under a certain amount of corners. Unlike the previous market, we still win if the corners are above the amount we predicted.
First-Half Corners
As you might expect, you’re betting on the amount of corners in the first-half, for both teams combined. Think about the teams that score in the first half, or start games with plenty of intent, especially when playing at home.
Corner Match Bet
Much like a bet on the result of the match, with this market you’re betting on who you think will have the most corners. You can also bet on the draw, which is usually much higher than most corner markets.
Corner Handicap
The handicap bet is based on the previous market, only the team starts with negative corners. The higher the handicap, the fewer corners they will start with. The usual starting point for bookmakers is -1, meaning the team you select will start the game with -1 corners. In order for your bet to win, they must end the game with 2 or more corners than their opponents.
Time of First Corner
Bookmakers have recently listed “specials”, where bettors can predict what will happen in the first ten minutes of games. Included in this section is the ability to predict the time of the first corner. There are a couple of options: Before or After. The bookmaker will dictate the time, but the most popular options—depending on the fixture—is 7 minutes.
First 10 Minutes Corner
Similar to the previous market, but with lower odds due to the fixed time range. I would advice avoiding this and taking a look at how the fixture starts. You can tell a lot from the first couple of minutes of the game. In that time, the odds for this market will have increased.
Corners Race
This market allows you to predict who will reach a certain number of corners in the fixture first. Who will win “the race”. There are many options with this market, so you could place a bet suggesting that Manchester City will win the race to 3, 5, or 7 corners.
First / Last Match Corner
Who will take the first or last corner of the game? If I’m honest, I think these markets are there to trap bettors. The latter mostly. Stats suggest that the first corner is usually awarded to the home side, given they match certain criteria. Now, whilst the number of corners per match are predictable to a degree, it’s hard to predict just who will take the final corner of the match. There are similarities in betting on goals. We can make an educated guess on the number of goals in a match, but betting on that number being odd or even is a complete waste of your money.
Betting on Corners In-Play
All of the markets mentioned above will fluctuate massively. Depending on the league or the teams, bookmakers will offer limited values within those markets. For the majority of fixtures in the major leagues, you will be able to bet on almost any amount of corners being taken in the match. However, for lower leagues, you might see a limited list, or a single value.

More markets will arrive once the fixture has started, and this is where a lot of bettors make money. They do their research on teams and how they grow into games. You can use the tools below to find stats that will aid you in betting on the corner markets we have mentioned in this article.
We also offer a more detailed corner betting system, with the aim of long-term profitability. It requires discipline, research and patience.
Finding Fixtures
We want to make finding high-value fixtures as easy as possible, and with corners there are multiple ways to find games that might interest you.
Fixture Feed
First, let’s start with the main fixture feed. This feed can be modified to show a wide-range of options, including AVG Corners, +8.5 Corners, +9.5 Corners and +10.5 Corners. The first of those options will show you the AVG Corner count, combined for both teams. Here’s an example:

The game between Sandefjord and FK Bodo-Glimt has an average of 11.83. Viewing this H2H will show us that this number comes from the home side averaging 4.31 corners per game, whilst Bodo-Glimt have been awarded 6.69 corners per game. This statistic, as well as the +X.X corners percentages, are very useful when betting on the number of corners per game.
Match Search
Whilst the front-page of FootyStats is great for getting an overview of the days action, you can cast a wider net by using the Match Search. If you are new to this tool, check out our previous article on finding high-value fixtures with the Match Search.

The Match Search allows you to filter through fixtures for specific stats. These are combined stats that take both teams into consideration, making them very useful for betting on goals, corners, cards and more. Using this tool, you can sort and filter fixtures for the following corner options:
- AVG Corners
- +8.5 Corners
- +9.5 Corners
- +10.5 Corners
There are no restrictions on the number of filters you can set at one time, so you can imagine how powerful a search based on PPG, AVG Corners and the number of games played can be. What’s more, the Match Search also supports filtering by the current odds.
Corner Stats Page
We have a full page dedicated just to corner stats. Here, you will find easy to read lists on teams that consistently see a high amount of corners in their fixtures. You can toggle between showing corners for and against.

This page also shows detailed stats for hundreds of leagues and competitions around the world, such as those that rank high for the number of corners awarded in the first or second halves of games. This page is a great starting point when betting on corners.
Corner Tips / Predictions
If you’re looking for inspiration, you can check out all of the predictions being made by FootyStats users. We have also created a corner predictions page, where we automate a list of predictions based on our stats.
Team Search
Whilst most bettors will work on a fixture by fixture basis, it’s sometimes better to understand and specialise in individual teams and leagues. You can find teams by using the Team Search, a powerful tool for filtering through thousands of teams. If you are new to this tool, you can check out our previous article on finding the best teams for betting.

Whilst the Match Search works on a fixture basis, taking combined and averaged out stats, the Team Search works with individual teams and their stats across the current season. As an example, let’s fine a side that consistently gets plenty of corners whilst playing at home.

First, we head to the manage tab and select the corner stats that we want to filter for, in this example we will select +5.5 Corners For %. We will set this option to 70% or higher. This means that the team we’re looking for have been awarded 5.5+ corners per game 70% or more of the time.
We can also adjust the number of games played. After searching you are left with a list of teams that consistently get corners. The team search will also show you their recent form and their next fixture by default. You can easily save these teams to your Team Search by clicking the pin icon.
